First of all, thanks for letting me join the blog again, Nick. I know I have a link to my website spanish-translation-help.com, but it's not like I every overly promote spanish-translation-help.com or try to show how cool I am because I have a website at spanish-translation-help.com. I'll make sure that from now on I don't make this blog a forum for letting everyone know about spanish-translation-help.com.
Anyways, a couple of weeks ago as we were preparing for our trip, I started thinking about legends we have in the family. It started because I told the boys that Mom was a doctor and Dad a banker and how Mom can speak French.
Well, I started thinking about things that have (and will) live on as legends we pass on and here are some that I came up with:
1. Grandma N. knew Helen Keller.
2. Chuck Norris tried to hit on Mom at Imperial Valley College.
3. Mom and Dad met Ozzie Smith and Dale Murphy (and got an autographed baseball from them, which they gave to me. Sorry, Nick, I don't think getting an autographed baseball of José Concepción counts as a legend.)
4. Chad being featured in Police Beat.
5. Chad outlasting Lavell at the urinal.
These are just some I came up with. Please share if you can think of any more.

Don't forget that Mom wrote the song "Geneology" and they changed it to "Family History" without her consent.
Doesn't Dad pull the strings for the Nicholas Family Reunions?
What about Chad cleaning the toilet for Queen Elizabeth?
Didnt dad also shake hands with John Wayne?
Oh yea...I think Chad also had Julie from MTV's real world in his BYU class. (before she got kicked out)
Some Correction: Mom knew John Wayne, Dad played basketball with the baseball ledgend Johnny Bench (cathcer for the Reds) Dad coached the Reds Baseball team and I think Chad was a starting pitcher.
Wasn't Dad also given stock options to Hometown Buffet from that older customer while he managed the Blackstone branch in Fresno.
Some clarifications:
1. Julie Stofer's(?) name was on the roll for my student development class that semester she was ousted. An of course, she was conspicuously absent the whole semester. Unless there was another girl who attended BYU by that same name, this is a story I will continue to tell my non-existent grandchildren.
2. I don't recall cleaning the toilet for Queen Elizabeth. I did however, while at the Bean, refuse entry to Elder Packer one early morning since it was before 9 am (time of opening). I happened to be vaccuming the rug in the entry-way foyer when he, flanked by two others, made their way toward the door. I told him and his entourage that the museum would not open for another hour and at that time he would be allowed safe passage through. Needless to say, I really didn't recognize him at first but even to this day I am still unsure if I would have let him in without my supervisor's approval even if I did know who it was.
At the risk of becoming too preachy, I must say that his response to me was not what I would have necessarily expected. After I made my comment, he responeded by saying, "My son works here in this building and he knows I am coming."
Wow...He could have belittled me for not knowing who he was or not understanding "my place" or he could have even made we watch Spiritual Crocodiles again for the 738th time, anything to make me writhe in agony. Of course, once he said that his son worked there, it dawned on me who his son was (a whole other story), and that it would be appropriate to allow passage. I let him in and, as they say, the rest is history..er...Legend.
I should have told him that I was Grandpa Nicholas' grandson.
Anyway, it has been my experience (not very significant but still) that the GA's come off as the least uptight. There have been a handful of times that I set up equipment in the Wilkinson center and other places for GA's and the people doing the logistics wear a constant "I-have-major-taco-soup-gas" look on their face whether things go well or if there are minor issues. Even Merrill, who didn't really come off as the friendly type, went out of his way one time to sincerely thank us for fixing an audio/visual issue during a luncheon. Anyway, this had happened a couple of times but with the experience with Elder Packer, I have been able to put a positive spin on an otherwise embarrasing situation.
